When we meet

At Christ Church, everyone is welcome because we believe that the good news of Jesus is for everyone.

We have two services on Sunday and one on Wednesday:

8am Sunday: A traditional Anglican service with Holy Communion every week

10am Sunday: A more contemporary Anglican service with a kids programme for ages 2-10. We celebrate Holy Communion every second week.

10am Wednesday: A traditional Anglican service with Holy Communion every week.

We know that sometimes you can’t make it in person, or you may be curious about church but want to check us out beforehand. To join the livestream of our Sunday services, click the link below.

What to expect

Regardless of whether this is your first visit to a church, or you’ve attended a church your whole life, you are very welcome at Christ Church. We understand that visiting anywhere new can be a bit nerve-racking, so we hope the FAQs below will help you feel more comfortable about visiting us.

A quick overview of Christ Church

Christ Church is an active church, with lots of activities and group meetings being held regularly. We want to help people connect with God and to experience his love and mercy, shown most clearly to us in Jesus Christ. We are an Anglican church and are part of the diocese of Canberra and Goulburn.

I’m not a Christian – am I welcome?

Absolutely! Our doors are open to everyone, as we believe that the good news of Jesus is for everyone. We’d love to help you explore this good news further and our church services are a great place for you to do this.

What happens during the service?

Each week the order may change, but there are some common parts to our church services. There is a time of singing (you can join or simply listen!). We hear the Bible read and preached (the sermon is a talk lasting for no more than 25 minutes). Someone leads the church in a time of prayer to God. We often celebrate Holy Communion, a time when we pay special attention to Jesus’ sacrificial death for us. We welcome everyone who follows Jesus to receive Communion, regardless of their church background.

This might be unfamiliar to you and that is okay – you are welcome to just listen in, and nothing is expected of you – please see the next point.

What participation is required?

We want you to feel welcome to come and listen in, without feeling concerned about being asked to do anything you’re uncomfortable with.  You can leave whenever you like, and while you can remain as anonymous as you want to be, we encourage you to introduce yourself to us – we’d love to meet you and connect with you.

I’d like to know more about Christianity

The Alpha course is great way to explore the Christian faith, deepen your understanding of God and learn more about the Bible. The Alpha course is run regularly and provides an opportunity to gather with others and explore the big questions of life, faith and meaning.

How do I get there?

You’ll find us at 192 Hawker Pl, Hawker ACT 2614. Parking across the road is usually easy on a Sunday morning.

What time should I arrive?

We aim to start our services on time, but you might like to arrive a bit earlier to settle in.

Accessibility

We have a hearing loop at all services, wheelchair access and accessible toilets. During our services, we have quiet space in the foyer for those who need it.

Our church building and ministry centre are wheelchair accessible. Accessible toilets are located in the ministry centre.

Where do I sit?

You are welcome to sit anywhere. There is no reserved or VIP seating, so as long as no one else is sitting on the seat, you are welcome to sit there!

What should I wear?

We want you to feel comfortable joining us. Please just come as you are – the church is about the people you are with, not the clothes you are wearing.

Are children welcome?

Definitely – our church is for people of all ages and stages. We encourage children to participate in the service as they are able

We have baby change facilities, space for strollers and prams, and some toys and activities for children during the service.

We understand that kids wriggle, make noise and need to get up and about. Babies need to feed and you are welcome to remain in the service while you do so. There is a microwave and fridge available in the kitchenette. Please feel free to attend to your children's needs during the service.

Kids’ Church takes place during our services on Sundays at 10am with an exciting program for children aged 2–10 years. Children begin their time in the main service and move to our ministry centre after 10-15 minutes. All of our kids’ church leaders have Working With Vulnerable People cards and have completed child safety training. Children are well cared for and you are welcome to settle your child in or sit in during Kids’ Church and watch what happens.

How long does the service go for?

Our 8am service runs for 70 minutes, and our other services are usually no longer than 80 minutes.  You are welcome to join us for something to eat after the service to get to know us better.
